Business Transformation in Educational Institute: a Case Study in Online Registration System

Abstract:

Prior to the fall semester 2006, the process of majoring allocation at the College of Commerce and Economics (CCE) in Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) required the students to pick up a major form from the Dean's Office and submit the completed form to the preferred department. The process was complicated and time consuming. Thus, in 2005, the College Board at CCE decided that the entire registration process had to be computerized. Consequently, the Major Allocation System (MAS) has been developed. The main purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a case study of MAS. MAS replaced the traditional manual system, which was used in the college since 1993. MAS resulted in noticeable improvements in the working environment, by playing significant role in the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall majoring procedures. Finally yet importantly, a summary of all the discussions will be presented highlighting the fundamental issues raised.
