Can Organisational Factors Affect User Satisfaction with the Usage of Enterprise Resource Planning System in Public Sector? The Case of Tanzania

Abstract:

This study aims to examine the influence of organisational factors on user satisfaction with enterprise resource planning (ERP) system usage in Tanzanian public sector. Design/methodology/approach – Empirical data were collected through a survey questionnaire. The questionnaires were distributed to selected user of ERP system in four organisations of the Tanzanian public sector. 263 respondents were established through stratifies sampling technique. 218 completed questionnaires were collected. The results indicate that user are satisfied with ERP usage when organisation consider factors like business process re-engineering, training, feasibility study, training, and employee involvement in the process of implementing ERP system. User satisfaction was measured through perception of respondents due to difficulties of getting actual data on the performance of the organisations as a resultant of satisfaction. Findings may be used may be used by public sector organisations to understand factors needed to be considered in the process of ERP system usage to ensure user satisfaction. This study examines organisational factors influencing user satisfaction in the Tanzanian public sector of Tanzania. It has come up with vivid examples of the organisational factors that public sector should consider for successful ERP system implementation.
