Capital Capacity of the Logistics Industry for Investments Involving the Construction of Logistics Centres

Abstract:

For many years there has been a trend towards concentration in the global and national economies. A similar trend is also observed in the logistics sector, where more and more logistics centres are being established.

The concentration of capital, resources and organisation is a consequence of the growth and development of enterprises in an industry. It seems that a natural consequence of the development of logistics enterprises is the transformation into a logistics centre. An international logistics centre is of great importance for the development not only of the enterprise in question, but also of the entire economy (downstream environment). Every investment activity requires investment, hence the question arises as to whether logistics enterprises with the knowledge, potential and technologies to run such centres are able to finance such an investment with their own capital. This article is an attempt to answer this question and contains an analysis of the capital situation of randomly selected Polish companies in the logistics sector. The study was based on the financial statements of 103 enterprises for the period 2016-2022.
