Carbon footprint as a factor of international competitiveness

Abstract:

The paper discusses the issue of the impact of carbon footprint on the ecological competitiveness of economy in the sphere of production of goods. The article focuses on selected aspects on international ecological competitiveness determined by the level of the generation of the emission of greenhouse gases in economies utilizing a specific structure of the production of electric energy. For the purpose of presentation of the potential impact of the of the carbon footprint on the green competitiveness of a given economy, a comparative ecological analysis of the life cycle LCA (cradle to gate) of a selected, unified in terms of composition and technology, product used on a massive scale was performed. For the purpose of the research several national production system were selected: French, German, Danish and Polish on the basis of which the product was manufactured. In the process of the LCA analysis the IPCC methodology was used supported by the SimaPro 9.0 software. The research results are preceded by a theoretical review of the background literature in the spheres of economics and political economy in respect of the areas of international  ecological competitiveness, its principle factors as well as forms of assessment.
