Career Perception and Professional Development According to Gender

Abstract:

The purpose of the article is to analyze the construct of a career, and its key values, taking account of the current and adaptive approach to shaping professional careers. Moreover, verification of a career, and of the method of its perception, depending on the gender, and assessment of objective and subjective measures of professional development from the point of view of women and men. The paper presents both the previous discussions concerning professional careers together with the moderating role played by the gender, and the results of original research. It turns out that evaluating the parameters of a career, or the determinants that shape it, does not vary substantially among women and men. A career pursued and understood in both groups takes a significantly subjective form. The personal values constitute a certain signpost and a lens, in relation to which both women and men make professional decisions focused on achieving progress in their career.
