Certification as a Tool in the Process of Leather Sector Globalization

Abstract:

This paper presents the certifications used in the leather sector to guarantee the high quality of the products created, supporting the implementation of sustainable production practices. The assumptions of individual certifications and the basic dimension of sustainable development that they implement are presented. The existing standards were also assessed in terms of their impact on the process of globalization of the leather sector towards sustainable development. The article refers to the Bluesign, Cradle to Cradle, Oeko-Tex, Global Recycle Standard (GRS), Internationale Verband der Naturtextilwirtschaft (IVN), Leather Working Group (LWG), Content Claim Standard (CCS), Fair-trade certification, SA8000 Certification and Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) certifications.
