Challenges in Optimizing Routing Protocols in Ad Hoc Mobile Networks

Abstract:

The margin between the actual connectivity capability of mobile nodes and the current knowledge about the topology at the routing level is identified. The connection probability is considered and determined for both the routing and physical layer levels. The difference between these indicates that the routing protocols do not fully utilize the network's capabilities, as confirmed by the results of simulation tests presented in the paper. The results for the modified version of the routing protocol, which shows increased efficiency, are also presented. Nonetheless, there is still space for optimization to further improve protocol efficiency, measured by metrics such as the packet delivery ratio (PDR).
