Characterization of the Romanian Agriculture in the Current European Context

Abstract:

In Romania, Agriculture remains a priority branch of the national economy where the Romanian rural environment disposes of conditions and advantages favorable to modern agriculture. However, it also presents a number of shortcomings which determine a low performance and a slow alignment to the developed countries in the European Union. It is known as the country with the most agrarian character among the EU Member States, significant in this regard being the agricultural potential it disposes of, as viewed from the point of view of the place and share occupied in terms of surfaces and production achieved. Through this paper, we wanted to make a comparative analysis on some specific aspects for the Romanian Agriculture regarding the place it occupies, the main influential factors in transforming the Romanian rural environment and the structure of the rural economy at European level. Therefore, our scientific approach materializes, based on the comparative analysis, into the achievement of the SWOT analysis, which aimed at the priorities of the European Union on the rural development during the period 2014 – 2020, where the identified issues will lead to the conclusion that the revitalization of the rural environment requires, first of all, a structural change that targets several directions of action tailored to the specifics of this country.
