Circular Economy: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract:

The paper is a systematic review of the literature, including 88 articles, which have been divided into three thematic areas: (1) transition to circular economy and entrepreneurial opportunities, (2) innovations and business models, and (3) entrepreneurial ecosystems. The concepts of entrepreneurship, sustainable development and circular economy are defined in systemic and holistic approaches to these concepts. They are perceived through the prism of their innovative nature, at the stage of activities and effects of implementation by enterprises, and as an element of a new civilization strategy. The article is the answer to the following question: What features and specificities of enterprises emerge in connection with the transformation towards CE? The research adopted the systematic literature review method, which provides the clearest possible conclusions about what is already and what is not yet known in the selected area or topic. The article consists of an introductory part, Section 2 presents the applied research method, Section 3 presents the results of the literature review, Section 4 includes a discussion on the obtained results and suggestions for directions of further research, and Section 5 contains final conclusions.
