Climate Change and Renewable Resources in the European Union

Abstract:

The natural resources of the planet are decreasing. Climate change and increased greenhouse gas emissions lead to irreversible transformations of human communities. This paper presents an analysis of the production of electricity in the EU Member States as well as the share of electricity generation by renewable sources. Environmental quality is influenced by pollution. Also, the production and consumption of electricity are influenced by pollution and climate change. For this reason, the sources underlying the production of electricity are increasingly diverse. Economies based on low greenhouse gas emissions and increased resource efficiency can help mitigate the effects of climate change. The analysis of the progress made in recent years has highlighted the increase in the shares of renewable sources in energy consumption, but also by sectors. Climate change will increase the importance of the extent to which a community has access to energy systems, but also the cost of accessing it.
