Communication As The Determining Factor Of Building School Communities In 21st Century

Abstract:

Communication skills seem to be crucial element of contemporary leadership skills, especially educational leadership. In traditional schools, communication was predominantly one-way, e.g. directed from teachers to students. Therefore, such schools were often dubbed schools of monologue. In contemporary schools, more and more communication is two-way or even multi-directional, which shows that all the participants of educational process are involved in the communication. It is one of the steps taken in order to build a school community. The issues discussed in this paper include communication and its impact on the creation of democratic school communities. The authors arrives at their final conclusions by means of discussing two aspects that are immanently related to communication, i.e. management styles and self-education.
