Abstract:
Quality of life is one of the key indicators of a society's well-being. International differences in the quality of life are significant, and analyzing these differences is important for improving the lives of citizens. Although the European continent is home to countries with relatively high levels of economic and human development, significant disparities still exist between them. In the first part of this thesis, we define key terms such as gross domestic product, quality of life, standard of living, and economic indicators, which will be used in the analysis. The main objective of the thesis is to compare international differences in the quality of life using the Human Development Index, focusing on the Bucharest Nine countries over the period from 2007 to 2021. The Bucharest Nine countries include Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovakia. For comparison, we chose Germany, the leader of Western Europe. To achieve this goal, we selected specific socio-economic indicators, through which we will conduct an analytical evaluation of the quality of life in the B9 countries.
