Comparative Analysis of the Logistic Capabilities of Seaports with the Use of Management and Applied Logistics Methods

Abstract:

The logistic capabilities of seaports is a factor which affects competitiveness in a particular water region and service quality in land-sea transport chains handled by seaport facilities. It is also a factor which defines the universality of seaports. Logistic capabilities can be measured by means of methods which are used in management and applied logistics. In this paper, such methods are presented as tools applied for the evaluation of the logistic capabilities of seaports, described with a hierarchical multi-criteria model. The result of the research comes as a classification of the Polish seaports which are of primary significance to the national economy. This classification makes it possible to define the advantages and disadvantages of the analysed facilities and their port performance profiles.  The paper is of a conceptual nature and is part of an individual project implemented by the author at the Baltic Centre of Applied Logistics on the modelling of the strategic capabilities of the maritime economy on the example of Poland – in terms of its economic and defensive aspects.
