Abstract:
Selangor is the most developed state in Malaysia that has gone through rapid development in economy, politics and socio-economy. This state offers a lot of business and job opportunities for the locals and foreigners. Thus, this study unraveled the perception of the rural and urban residents on the quality of life while embracing the fruit of development. This study examined the determinants of quality of life of 384 people living in urban and rural areas in Selangor that involved households, students, working people and retirees. A questionnaire method of cross-sectional survey was carried out. Results showed that three factors namely; government initiative, public safety and environment have significant relationship with quality of life. In addition, there was no significant different in perception towards overall quality of life between rural and urban residents in Selangor. Several recommendations were made as a guide in improving quality of life in Selangor state.
