Abstract:

The purpose of the article is to analyze the authorities' competences in the field of defense - in legal acts - in regions neighboring the Republic of Poland. The comparative method was used in the assessment. The following criteria were adopted for the purpose of comparison of the competences of the authorities: understanding of the term "defense" in the different countries, directing the national defense, organization of the state defense, and planning of the state defense.
