Competitive Benchmarking: Improving The Performance Of A Transport Company

Abstract:

Due to the competitive environment they act in, companies are constantly looking for new ways to improve their performance. To this end, benchmarking becomes an efficient external management tool; it can be applied to the business practices of any company interested in finding the best practices in their industry, in knowing the market trends and competition in the field in which it operates. Also, benchmarking studies can be used in order to find new ideas that will materialize in future development plans. The aim of this paper is to highlight the advantages of groupage trips, LTL (less than truckload), compared to the complete ones, FTL (full truckload), by applying the benchmarking technique. The paper is based on real data obtained from competing companies whose field of activity is the international transport of goods. The study highlights the advantages of introducing the benchmarking process in the current activity of a company, while proposing a series of measures to reduce operational costs and efficient fleet management.
