Abstract:
The aim of the contribution is to identify and quantify the structure as well as concentration of the transportation and storage services sector in Visegrad countries. The market players at the transportation and storage services market are classified to four size groups of business entities. Attention is paid to the inequality between the defined four size groups in terms of their market share, while the calculation is based on operating income, total assets, long-term intangible assets, as well as long-term assets of individual size groups. In the study of the transport and storage services sector in the V4 countries, significant differences were identified in relation to size groups, namely in total operating revenues, total assets including fixed assets and intangible fixed assets. Quantification was based on the use of the Lorenz curve and Gini coefficients, as well as the Herfindahl-Hirschman index. The study carried out within the V4 countries confirms changes in the level of concentration as well as the reduction of inequalities between different size categories of firms on the market. From the point of view of the technologies used in the sector, which is reflected in the volume of assets, it is mainly about the possibility of their joint use.
