Abstract:

This paper provides empirical evidence on the association between fiscal decentralisation and income inequality for a panel of the 28 economies of the European Union over the period 2000 - 2015. The main finding from the empirical exercise is a higher degree of decentralization is associated with lower household income inequality within a country.
