Considering the Value of Life Year (VOLY) in Technology Assessment (TA) – Case of Poland

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to provide an estimation of Value of Life Year (VOLY) for taking into account health effects within the procedure of the technology assessment. This value was determined on the basis of a study performed among 900 randomly selected individuals living in Poland. Stated Preference approaches like Contingent Valuation (CV) were used in the study. The statistical analyses and modelling performed enabled determination of the average value of additional costs resulting from taking actions aimed towards environment protection, which respondents would be willing to pay in exchange for additional life year. This value became the basis for estimation of VOLY.
