Abstract:
The article aims to signal the role of innovativeness (including regional innovativeness) in the economy and show the current state of innovativeness of EU states. A higher level of innovativeness fosters growth, has a positive effect on the economic performance and improves the general socio-economic situation of the given area. However, innovation-driving activities are to some extent dependent on the level of development already achieved in the given area. Poorly developed states or regions with a low level of affluence usually can afford lower spending on research and implementation of innovation, which limits their possibilities.
