Corporate Social Responsibility in Slovak Insurance and Reinsurance Companies – Is it a Significant Factor in Their Business?

Abstract:

Many companies are renewing their efforts to promote best practise corporate governance and good CSR practises which should then help to create conditions, which are more favourable for sustainable growth, responsible business and renewed confidence.
The aim of this paper is to show the influence of CSR in the business activities of insurance and reinsurance companies in Slovakia. Further, we will show how they are fulfilling the Ten Principles defined by UN Global Compact. The Ten Principles provide a universal definition for responsible business, calling on all companies to operate in ways that, at a minimum, respect fundamental responsibilities in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. To attain this goal, we analysed code of conducts of 22 insurance companies and 1 reinsurance company in Slovakia.
