Crisis and business continuity management: mutual connection

Abstract:

Nowadays business environment can be considered as a very complex area. This means that the leaders of each organization, in order to understand its functioning, need to be familiar with many different fields and approaches. Understanding the interconnections of relations in the organization and also in its surroundings is vital for leader’s appropriate decision making. Inseparable part of decision making is undoubtedly dealing with crisis. Current concept of crisis management is being understood as an immediate response to sudden and unpredictable changes in the organizations’ surroundings. The paper considers and introduce the idea about connection of disciplines of crisis management and business continuity management (BCM). Business continuity management (BCM) aims towards to resumption of processes to previous conditions. However, this change can lead to the crisis as well and can cause more problems to the organization. Therefore we can identify the field of potential discussion in the connection between these disciplines. 

We state some several principles of crisis management and business continuity management and compare these approaches by identification of common parts and differences. We identify potential issues and conflicts in relating these approaches.
