Cumulative Method in Education

Abstract:

The current status of knowledge and cognition (in the realm of humanities) in Iran shows that the process of production and development of knowledge is incohesive and uncontinuous rather than communal and cumulative. It seems anybody who is going to propose an idea or plan has to do the whole process by himself/herself and carry alone the burden of research, disregard of the massive and conducted works before him/her. However, it is necessary to point that nowadays this method is neither desirable nor possible. One result of this kind of education is disintegrating peoples and cultures so no way to join the deferent ideas, opinion and thought; With reference to the above point, this research is after pathology and finding the cause of the current status of knowledge in Iran, and further to propose a plan, if being justified, which can improve the status a little, and help to produce collective knowledge; a kind of knowledge which promote uniting of cultures. The focus of the plan is on the method and approach. Therefore, by recognizing historical and psychological aspects of different methods and approaches, it is suggested to restart a sort of pair education in the system of the governmental education. That is, while entering universities in Iran demands passing the entrance exam (konkoor), a way should be found by which instead of choosing a major individually, two persons choose a major simultaneously, and after entering the university, they study together and pass the units. It is also possible to take this approach in the realm of research in humanities. It should be mentioned this educational approach was used in instructive and educational tradition of Iran, and it is being used in some educational-traditional institution, especially in religious schools. The aim of this research is to expand and apply it in realm of university and academies.
