Current Situation of Building the Smart City Concept and Smart Mobility in Selected Slovak Cities

Abstract:

The Smart City (SC) concept is known around the world. Cities are currently plagued by several problems that need to be addressed. E.g., sustainability of the city about ecology, mobility, and quality of life of the inhabitants. Digitization allows cities to solve problems through intelligent elements (e.g., the Internet of Things). The SC concept takes these possibilities into account and creates an opportunity for cities to adapt to the new wave of digitization and use it to their advantage. SC can reflect on several areas of the city and thus helps in the management of the city itself about achieving sustainability goals. Urban mobility is one of the elements of the SC that is often discussed, as solutions in this area are the most sought after. Slovak cities are also addressing the improvement of the traffic situation for all stakeholders. The article points out the current state of the SC issue in Slovakia on the mobility part. The aim is to show the current situation of SC implementation in general in selected Slovak cities and also to point out selected indicators in the field of mobility. The view of the local government is supplemented by the view of the Slovak public on the knowledge of the concept and mobility in cities. The results show that Slovak cities are responding to the coming changes, but it is still in its early stages.
