DEA based decision support system for public hospitals in Jordan

Abstract:

There are several techniques that can be used to evaluate business performance and cost effectiveness related attributes. In the field of data mining Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) can be used to evaluate and compare different Decision Making Units (DMUs) based on input and output attributes. In this paper, public hospitals in Jordan are evaluated based on different algorithms and methods related to DEA. Other data mining techniques are also used in conjunction with DEA to improve the precision and be able to differentiate between similar DMUs and find out the attribute that can be more relevant to the DMUs performance than the other attributes. Results showed that it is very important initially to define correctly the input and output attributes to the model as such decision will impact the overall results. It is also important to enumerate all possible inputs and outputs that may contribute to such efficiency. A decision support tool is developed to help decision makers change input and output variables on the fly and evaluate their impact on the efficiency.
