Deciding on the Type of R&D Support: Using Fuzzy Expert System

Abstract:

Globalization of the economic environment has brought a pressure to increase the intensity of innovation in manufacturing industry. Enterprises can invest in new technologies, innovation processes, implement new methods for organizing common processes and implement marketing innovation. Innovative methods are based primarily on research and development (R & D). R & D funding plays a key role especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Management is responsible for the distribution of the budget and must make a crucial decision, from which funds the projects should be financed. This contribution proposes a support solution which integrates fuzzy logic in management decisions in the financing of R & D project in other way than by own resources. Knowledge base is composed by values specified in project ​​provided to support R & D activities in small and medium enterprises in the Czech Republic. The methodology is based on samples and verified on real enterprises data. The final part outlines the possibility of dialogue between management and expert system; the knowledge base uses 18 variables and 103 conditional statements.
