Demand for Educating Future Engineers in the Field of Social Subjects

Abstract:

The aim of the article is to compile the views of future and current engineers on the need for teaching social subjects at technical universities. Based on research in the literature, the article identifies the areas of non-technical knowledge that society and employers require from engineers, in particular as regards Industry 4.0. The author compared the results of observations of other researchers with the results of the author's research carried out at the Poznań University of Technology. Conclusions from the presented case study provide arguments for the development of social competences and the integration of science in the process of educating engineers and are in line with the principles of the Bologna process. The presented results enrich knowledge that may contribute to the socio-economic development of the European region .
