Designing Interactive Learning Material Using Design Science Research and HCI Principles

Abstract:

The goal of this study is to reflect on the design process followed to create undergraduate interactive learning material for students at the North-West University (NWU). The interactive learning material was created for a module termed Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Old-fashioned paper-based study material was transformed into interactive learning material during the design process of an interactive artefact. This paper explains the design process of the artefact by using the design science research (DSR) framework. This paper highlights important HCI principles which can be used as guidelines when designing interactive learning material.
