Abstract:
According to previous studies, many researchers and practitioners developed various criteria for evaluating of knowledge management results. Literature review has exposed that comprehensive set of criteria and success measurement have not been provided for knowledge management initiatives. This paper addresses the problem of determining the criteria for measuring knowledge management programs among Malaysian firms and explores to develop widely-accepted criteria to measure success of knowledge management efforts for Malaysian organizations. Hence, this research attempts to find out most favored criteria within Malaysian organizations and to examine relationship between criteria for measuring knowledge management and success of KM programs. It also tries to investigate relationship between KM criteria and organization’s mission, goals, and objectives. The target population for the current survey was composed of 79 Malaysian firms from different types of organizations. According to the findings achieved from statistical analysis, the most favored criteria among respondents for measuring outcomes of KM initiatives; included: enhanced collaboration, improved communication, improved learning/adaptation capability, sharing best practices, better decision-making, enhanced product or service quality, enhanced intellectual capital, and increased empowerment of employees. Finally, it is hoped that this research study provides a better picture for organizations within Malaysia to develop and determine a comprehensive set of criteria to measure success of KM programs.
