Abstract:

A standard systems development methodology has been applied to depict the supply chain in the aircraft maintenance industry, propose automation applications and seek optimisation problems. An area of interest that has emerged is that of rotable spares, which presents scope for research. The authors have developed and tested a linear programming model to optimise rotable inventory levels, with measured improvements compared to current industry practice.
