Abstract:

This paper describes the development of a computer-aided learning package, CALM4, that teaches Standard 4 Mathematics. It comprises six modules - Lessons, Exercises, Quizzes, Games, Reports and Maintenance. It is a bilingual system that allows the users a choice of either English or Malay language for the instructions. CALM4 was developed using the incremental evolution technique. The development tools used include Adobe Flash 8 Professional, Microsoft Access, Adobe Photoshop CS2, ASP and Internet Information Services (IIS). After all six modules were developed and tested, CALM4 was evaluated by Standard 4 Mathematics teachers and students. The feedback shows that out of the 22 participants, 10 (45.5%) and 12 (54.5%) participants indicate that they agreed and totally agreed that CALM4 is easy to use, respectively. Also, 5 (22.7%) and 15 (68.2%) participants agreed and totally agreed that CALM4 is effective in assisting students in the learning of Standard 4 Mathematics, respectively.
