Abstract:
The main objectives of this paper are: to identify factors influencing safety culture and to discover and analyze the interaction among these factors using ISM. This research utilizes interpretive structural modelling as the methodology and framework to develop the relationships between the selected safety culture factors in two large companies operating in Poland. The proposed model provides a useful tool for enterprises to focus on those determinants of decision making process that are most important for effective safety culture improvement.
The authors used MICMAC analysis to classified variables involved in the study into five clusters: input variables, intermediate variables, resultant variables, excluded variables and clustered variables. This study highlights the benefits of an interpretive approach where interrelationships between safety culture factors can be modelled to demonstrate potential influence on other connected factors thereby, increasing the chances of safety improvements success.
