Development of Knowledge Management System: A Preliminary Study on Property Management Companies in Malaysia

Abstract:

This paper describes the nature of property management business companies and explores the implementation of knowledge management system in these companies. In property management, it represents substantial investment for organizations and usually has to accommodate and support a range of activities, taking into account competing needs. Today, knowledge is identified as the crucial asset organization and added competitive advantage compared to before. One of the issues to be solved in the implementation of the knowledge management concept is the development of knowledge management system itself. The main objective of this paper is to look at the potential of developing a knowledge management system that will be used as guideline to build successful knowledge based system among property management companies. This model consists of five key elements; contents, technology, people, process and context that are related to each other and needed for the development of knowledge management systems. Thus this paper, will be used to help organizations to develop knowledge management systems more effectively that support all activities in real estate businesses, thus in turn will fulfil customer’s satisfaction and more importantly  organizations will be able to handle their essential asset; knowledge as well as creating knowledge
