Abstract:

This research aims at exploring the blockchain technology role in the national innovation system development and defining its application areas in the Russian Federation. The current condition of the Russian national innovation system has been studied; some weaknesses and opportunities for improvement have been revealed. The structure and main advantages of the blockchain technology have been covered, prospective areas for its applications have been explored and some difficulties, associated with its implementation, have been detected. The Russian society's and authorities' position on the blockchain technology implementation in the country has been clarified, which was essential, in order to make sure that this technology can be used in the Russian Federation. By using the regression analysis, the relationship between the blockchain application and the national innovation system development indicators (namely, the venture capital deals), has been analyzed, in order to test a particular way of using blockchain for the country's welfare. Finally, the perspectives of the Russian national innovation system development, based on the blockchain technology application in finance, have been defined. This work is considered as relevant, as it can serve as an information basis for forming the Russian national innovation system development policy.
