Abstract:
Observations of market reality indicate a dynamic development of the tourism market in the European Union after the COVID-19 pandemic. The article presents the results of research on the analysis of the development of tourism in selected European Union (EU) countries. The subject of the research was tourism and the changes taking place in it over the years. The research was conducted on the basis of an analysis of the literature on the subject and data provided in official statistics (e.g. EUROSTAT and GUS). The analysis covered selected EU countries. The adopted time frame for the study covered the years 2014-2023. The development of tourism is caused by a change in the approach to spending free time and increased mobility of society, which contributes to more frequent tourist trips. In the EU countries, the introduction of the Schengen area, which allows for easier international travel, also turned out to be particularly important. The analysis showed that tourism is developing in the studied countries, despite the difficulties that have affected this sector as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The presented analysis may be an introduction to further in-depth research on the development of tourism in the context of its importance for the economy in selected European Union countries. At the same time, it constitutes a subject for discussion on the future development of the tourism market in the era of omnipresent global competition.
