Digital Competence, General Data Protection Regulation and University Responsibility

Abstract:

The purpose of the research is to investigate business students’ perception of the General Data Protection Regulation within the context of digitalization and university responsibility. Considering the specifics of the research subject and the aim set a qualitative research using focus group interview was performed. Altogether there were organized six focus groups of students representing two private business schools in Riga. The method of data processing – content analysis (concept map). The main findings of the research were related to. During recent years, digital competence has become a key concept in the discussion in the field of higher education, it is recognized as one of the key competences for the 21st century. The practical value of the current research lies with the fact that it identified problems students had faced regarding minding their data privacy in the digital environment, as well as with the fact that article proposes some practical problem solutions.
