Digital Startup Internationalization Trends: Evidence from Venture Capital

Abstract:

Current research is focused mainly of the key factors of successful internationalization, including human, financial and other types of resources; institutional settings, specific competences, and a number of other reasons that explain significant growth rates of the startup foreign operations. The evidence on that is acquired from the startup companies (usually in a form of companies’ employees and owners interviewing) and from the outside sources of data (i.e., financial performance data); in this paper we analyze the issue of successful digital startup internationalization from the venture capital’s point of view by means of assessing the interviews venture fund experts are holding with the startups seeking the money. As a result it appeared that in digital sphere it is also important to consider the basic technology and the sector of the digital sphere where startup is operating.
