Digitalization and Employment Problems of Modern Youth

Abstract:

The purpose of the research is to identify problems of youth employment and employment, as well as to study the advantages and risks of the digital environment for youth employment. The authors analyze the dynamics of youth employment in the global space and systematize the problems of their employment (the dilemma between employment and education; low motivation for development and employment due to high status and income ambitions; employers' distrust of hiring young professionals, the choice in favor of employees with work experience; gaps in social policy to support young unemployed). The authors reveal changes in the labor market that occur as a result of digitalization (the formation of new forms of labor, cooperation and exchange; growth in the quality of labor resources and changes in employee requirements; structural shifts in professions and competencies; automation and robotization of work and displacement of people). The authors propose a "B-R" matrix that reflects the benefits and risks of digitalization for youth employment. It is concluded that digitalization can overcome many existing problems of youth employment, expands opportunities for realizing the ability of young people to adapt to more flexible forms of work and training, but without motivation for development and employment of modern youth, all options for adaptation to the changing labor market become impossible.
