Abstract:
The topic of diversity in the workplace is currently being discussed and debated in contemporary organizations. In this paper, we explore the multifaceted concept of diversity by examining its evolving definitions, opportunities, and challenges based on a systematic review.
Our findings indicate that the understanding of diversity has evolved from being a synonym for individual variety to a term that acknowledges the otherness and potential discrimination of social groups that diverge from the mainstream. This understanding of diversity involves the challenge that perceived differences may become more apparent, which can lead to negative corporate dynamics and increase division and discrimination. However, by being sensitive to diversities, we can encourage team creativity, innovation, and collaboration, enhance compliance, and focus on the interests of shareholders and stakeholders on the board, ultimately improving business performance and sustainability.
The article presents recommendations for businesses to tactfully handle diversity in order to fully capitalize on its potential benefits.
