Abstract:
Investments are one of the most important areas of business management. In addition to decisions concerning the optimization of asset structure, financing, and restructuring, decisions regarding divestment also play an important role. The divestment process involves the sale or withdrawal of specific assets and is part of a company's strategy to focus on its core business and eliminate inefficient assets in order to increase profitability. The aim is therefore to improve the financial and strategic position of the company, which can lead to increased efficiency and value. There are many internal and external reasons that prompt companies to engage in divestment activities.
The main objective of the research is to evaluate how the divestment activities of selected companies in the fuel sector have been affected by the impact of the ongoing pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
The study focused on a group of eight oil companies, covering the period from January 2018 to December 2022. The study analyzed both companies’ divestment indicators and their financial condition, including profitability, liquidity, leverage.
