Abstract:

After more than 30 years of absolute hegemony, relational databases seem to have a real competitor. The NoSQL movement gains increasing popularity helped by Big Data phenomenon, analytics and cloud technologies. The main problems that the NoSQL databases have to solve are scalability and efficient management of new data types. This paper tries to identify the context of NoSQL appearance, their main features, known weaknesses and possible fields where they might succeed in the next few years.
