Abstract:
This paper brings a contribution to the specialized literature by offering a study which assesses the influence of culture on the Romanian tourism. We identified the role of tourism in economic development since this industry represents a great opportunity and generates new jobs. We offer proof regarding the influence of culture on tourism. To do this, we chose several variables characteristic of the Romanians’ culture level, as well as some which describe the frequency of their trips. The dependent variables are tourist arrivals, tourist overnight stay and departures abroad. While the independent variables are books lent by libraries, number of filmgoers, number of spectators at art performances, printed books and radio shows. Our research highlighted the fact that an increase in filmgoers will generate an increase in tourist arrivals. Romanians’ departures abroad are influenced by the number of books lent by libraries and the number of theatre-goers.
