E-Banking Accessibility: The Social and Financial Exclusion of People with Visual Disability

Abstract:

1.3 billion people have vision impairment, 70 per cent of which, live in developing countries, such as Egypt, which has a population of over 98 million. Banks’ websites and ATMs are not accessible, and staff has negligible expertise to deal with visually impaired customers. Accordingly, this research investigates the challenges that face people with visual disability, and the reasons behind preventing them from opening bank accounts independently, and thus jeopardizing their privacy. The study also identifies the main variables that affect e-banking accessibility together with the mediating and moderating factors. Then, the research develops an accessible prototype e-banking system
