Abstract:
In 2000, the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries entered into the e-ASEAN Framework Agreement to facilitate the establishment of the ASEAN Information Infrastructure to promote electronic (e) commerce in the region. One of the key elements in the creation of an e-commerce friendly environment was the establishment of a legal infrastructure. This paper examines the implementation of such a legal framework with specific emphasis on Malaysia and Singapore the regional leaders, the challenges being faced and the road ahead for ASEAN towards achieving its goals.
