Abstract:
This article discusses the concept of e-participation (involving residents of cities and municipalities in public activities via information technology), its level in the Czech Republic, and on selecting and describing chosen “best practices” in Czech cities and city districts. According to the E-Participation Index, which is regularly published by the UN, its level in the Czech Republic is relatively low. As of now, Czech municipalities do not fully make use of the potential of e-participation. However, there is a number of successful Czech participation projects that could at least partially inspire other municipalities, which could then gain access to benefits from a higher level of satisfaction of their residents – one of the positive effects that e-participation has. The described Czech best practices can also inspire municipalities in other European countries.
