Eagerness of Cataloger towards RDA Milestones: Portrayed Sentiments

Abstract:

Transformation to Resource, Description and Access (RDA), a new cataloging code that shifted from Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR) was designed for better accommodates formats than print. A lot of previous research has been done from the early RDA was first introduced in the whole libraries in many countries. It was really a hot discussion on RDA acceptance and transformation in some organization not just from cataloger’s awareness, insight, knowledge or training activities, or even in getting supports from the parent organization for better bibliographic description in organizing information. Hence, this research investigate the challenges portrayed by the RDA catalogers’ sentiments or feelings in their organization. The respondents are the RDA catalogers who actively engaging RDA in cataloging routines once implemented. They are from academic libraries from national and private institutions in Malaysia. Therefore, the snowball sampling technique and the quantitative method for data gathering is applied. The findings show that the catalogers have exhibited high professionalism in accepting and using RDA in daily cataloging by portraying a few technical parts that considered challenging by the catalogers. Perhaps this study will recommend and discover the best productivity of RDA implementation at the end of the study
