Economic Growth and CO2 Emissions in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

The link between economic growth and the environment pressure have become a subject of many studies. Due to the newly available consistent historical data, this paper is aimed to express the long-term relationship between GDP and CO2 emissions in the Czech Republic between 1970 and 2016. In particular, the objective of this work is to verify validity of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) on CO2 emissions, also by using concept of decoupling. Nevertheless, modelling did not clearly  prove the validity of EKC for CO2 emissions, because growth phase of this curve is not clearly legible on selected historical dataset. However, it is possible to determine that CO2 emissions began to fall at the level of around 55,530 CZK GDP/capita.
