Abstract:

The link between economic growth and the environment pressure have become a subject of many studies. Due to the newly available consistent historical data, this paper is aimed to express the long-term relationship between GDP and CO₂ emissions in the Czech Republic between 1970 and 2016. In particular, the objective of this work is to verify validity of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) on CO₂ emissions, also by using concept of decoupling. Nevertheless, modelling did not clearly  prove the validity of EKC for CO₂ emissions, because growth phase of this curve is not clearly legible on selected historical dataset. However, it is possible to determine that CO₂ emissions began to fall at the level of around 55,530 CZK GDP/capita.
