Economic Security and Contemporary Trade Policy. A Contribution to Discussion

Abstract:

The concept of economic security is not new. Knowledge of the fact that the economic factor affects or even constitutes an inseparable element of security has been accompanying the evolution of international relations throughout the entire history. This article identifies and describes the controversies and dilemmas arising from the issue of economic security of a state in conditions of the current growth of the world’s economy. Viewing from the perspective of trade policy allows to distinguish from among them three significant open subsets which exist in close mutual interdependence. The first is of a methodological nature – referring to the paradigm of security in contemporary international relations, the second arises based on the changes generated by the processes of globalisation and regionalisation, while the third one is linked to the civilisational change ongoing in the world of technology and organisation of economic activity, and the applied tools of trade policy.
