Abstract:
The article contains results of the analysis of innovative activity of enterprises of the Bryansk region of Russia in comparison with similar indicators of other regions of the Central Federal District. The authors also provide data characterizing the development of higher education in a similar comparison. It is suggested that the link between university existence, innovation, and an economic growth is not so obvious. In addition, the authors hypothesize that the model of the so-called ‘research university’ will not find wide application in Russia with the exception of Moscow and several areas due to the weakness of the institutions for protecting intellectual property and technology transfer. Consequently, there is no reason to expect acceleration of innovation activity in the near and medium term in the Russian province
