Effect of Novel Dimensions of Human Capital on Innovative Work Behavior

Abstract:

Firms are in dire need of innovative work behavior at the part of workers. Employees are asset of every organization only if they possess human capital that leads to innovative work behavior. Past studies in the literature could not reveal the true potential of human capital due to measurement error. Most of those studies only used education as measure of human capital and tried to find the impact of later on desirable outcomes of employees such as productivity, efficiency and innovativeness. In this study we put forward that education alone cannot measure human capital and there are other capabilities of employees like social capital, psychological capital, emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence, which are part of human capital as they jointly enhance skills of labor. To find the effect of these capabilities on innovative work behavior, we run various regression models on the data collected from employees of universities of Pakistan. The results reveal that these capabilities show positive significant effect on innovative work behavior. The results are robust as all capabilities, individually as well as jointly in an index, positively and significantly affect innovative work behavior.
